«If Not We than Who? »

A trip to the Borisov orphanage was organized on September, 23 2009 within the framework of the project “Youth Leadership” (the project is supported by the Ginsburg Family, USA).

Plans to organize this special event were announced a month prior. Many people were ready to give a helping hand to those children who were left with no parents and were brought up in orphanages. Besides clothes, toys, stationery they donated lots of things: diapers, wipes and other necessary things for small kids. Even a box full of bananas was presented for children.

There live 120 children within the age period from 0 to 3 years old in Borisov orphanage. It's hard to describe how happy the kids were because of the attention and care to them and because of the toys they got. For a couple of hours children have been playing, enjoying themselves and walking in the fresh air together with guests from Minsk. And this time was enough for the project participants to become convinced that they would come back. “We will come back to give warmth to these wonderful kids. These children belong to no one, they have no parents… It is a phrase that has changed many of us».

Members of Madrichim School of the Jewish Community Center “Emunah”, coordinator Irina Abramovich, director of the JCC “Emunah” Sofia Filkova, and some more people who helped to organize the trip took part in the action.

Here are phone numbers for those who might be willing to participate in next action and help orphans: +37529 6675219, +37533 6325219 Irina Abramovich.

Alevtina Babyna became Hesed client in 1998 when the recrudescence of polyarthritis in lower limbs put her on crutches. The pain was insufferable, so was the feeling of helplessness and irrelevance against her long previous life full of physical endurance.

At 73, he still is what his father had been all his life: dedicated communist and convinced internationalist. Named after Friedrich Engels, Karl Marx’s pal and accomplice in their abortive attempts to overthrow the reign of misappropriated surplus value, he still mourns the USSR and blames those who emigrate for a better living in Israel, in the USA or, even worse, in Germany.
