The story of Elena Vakulchik resembles the story of many women who faced betrayal of the person trusted and hoped to build a strong family with. In 2003 Elena gave birth to twin boys. As they were born prematurely, the boys were very weak and doctors fought for their lives. The situation got even worse, when one of the kids, Misha, turned out to have congenital malformation: sensor neural deafness and speech underdevelopment. While Elena and Misha were in hospital, the father of the children filed for divorce and paternity suit. Although court decision was positive for Elena, it didn’t help the situation: the father abandoned the family and does not participate in the life of his children. This year the boys started school, but they go to different schools – Misha has to attend a specialized school for children with hearing impairments.
Elena is all by herself. She takes care not only of her children, but also looks after her ill mother who lives with them. That is why Elena is so grateful to JFOS for such needed support: Supermarket program, purchase of a desk and school preparation program for children, purchase of an earphone for Misha.
Despite all the sorrow this brave woman has encountered, she is a positive thinker and tries to bring up her children in the same way. She believes that her boys will become respectable and broad-minded people. Misha is a very active and lively boy. He likes to dance and play outdoors. Artem is, vice versa, quite a calm and sober-minded child, keen on modeling. But what unites the brothers is that they are always excited to visit MJC, be it a holiday celebration, or a shabbaton, – the family members are all active participants of community programs. The MJC is the place that makes them believe in kindness again, the place where they find confidence, care and comfort. |
